WOMEN’S SUPPORT AND GENDER EQUALITY POLICY
Karshi State University recognizes the protection of women’s rights and interests, the promotion of their active participation in education, research, and social life, and the strengthening of gender equality principles as one of its key institutional priorities. This policy has been developed in accordance with the Resolution of the Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated December 28, 2022 (No. SQ-682-IV) on the implementation of the Gender Equality Strategy of the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030, the Order of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation dated May 5, 2023 (No. 126), as well as the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers dated October 6, 2021 (No. 625) on additional measures to improve the rehabilitation and adaptation of women affected by violence and the prevention of suicide. The policy is aimed at ensuring a strict zero-tolerance approach to any form of discrimination, harassment, or violence against women within the university.
Within the university environment, equal opportunities for women are ensured not only through formal policies and regulations but also through the consistent integration of these principles into academic processes, social life, and cultural activities. Necessary conditions are created to support the personal development of female students and women staff, enhance their academic and professional competencies, and foster an active civic position in society. At the same time, particular attention is given to building a healthy socio-psychological environment based on mutual respect, equality, and tolerance.
Preventing violence and harassment against women is one of the university’s priority areas. For this purpose, regular roundtable discussions, awareness campaigns, and educational meetings are organized under themes such as “We are against violence and harassment.” During these activities, students are provided with comprehensive knowledge on crime prevention, legal awareness, the causes and consequences of violence, as well as practical guidance on protection mechanisms and reporting procedures. Events conducted with the participation of university psychologists, inspectors, and specialists contribute to raising awareness among women about their rights, strengthening social engagement, and developing a culture of personal safety.
The university has established a consistent system of psychological and social support, providing free counseling services to female students and women staff. Through the psychological service center, individualized support is offered to those experiencing stress, pressure, social challenges, or personal difficulties. This contributes to strengthening their emotional well-being and improving their academic and professional performance.
In addition, the university regularly implements educational and awareness programs focused on gender equality, family values, and social responsibility. Seminars and meetings organized at the faculty level address the role of women in society, their social protection, as well as contemporary challenges emerging in the context of globalization and their possible solutions. These activities involve faculty advisors for women’s issues, psychologists, and specialists, providing students with practical knowledge and life skills.
The university also places strong emphasis on increasing the social engagement of women. Various competitions, campaigns, and cultural events, such as initiatives conducted within the framework of the “16 Days of Activism Against Violence,” serve as important platforms for strengthening women’s role in society and showcasing their creative and social potential. These initiatives contribute not only to supporting women but also to fostering a safe, inclusive, and healthy university environment.
Within the framework of this policy, the university guarantees a safe and protected environment for every woman. In cases of violence or harassment, confidential reporting mechanisms are available, and each case is reviewed promptly, fairly, and impartially. Protecting victims and providing them with the necessary support is considered a priority responsibility of the institution.
Overall, Karshi State University aims to create a modern, inclusive, and sustainable educational environment by supporting women and ensuring gender equality. This policy contributes to providing equal opportunities for all members of the university community, promoting respect for human dignity, and ensuring social justice, while being continuously improved in alignment with national and international sustainable development goals.
